CAMPO
TILES AND INSTALLATION X NEROSICILIA
FARM CULTURAL PARK
FAVARA
2024

CAMPO is a new site-specific and permanent installation, that aims to highlight one of the artisanal techniques that has made Nerosicilia a flagship of Sicilian production at international level.
Through a floor of square tiles with a side length of 15 centimeters – with green glass decorated to geometrically abstract the traditional patterns of Sicilian majolica – metaphorically a meadow of the Iblean countryside is reproduced.
The 21 square meter surface of the green floor is punctuated by the inclusion of three lava stone tile-pots containing carob plants, a native tree of the Ragusa countryside, where Nerosicilia operates. The decor is entirely made using glass obtained from recycled TV and PC monitors. Through an exclusive manufacturing process, Nerosicilia obtaines the raw material for each of its decorations from the crushed and grinded glass.
This installation aims to highlight a contemporary, completely sustainable, local artisanal technique and stands as a symbol of the productive and cultural rejuvenation of a region that moves beyond old clichés to embrace new layers of contemporaneity.
